Complaints

Complaints may be solved informally if both parties involved voluntarily agree. These complaints will be considered as seriously as complaints that are filed formally following Policy 1700. The benefits of informal complaints are numerous and may include:

• Less publicity
• Confidentiality is easier to maintain for all involved
• Less overwhelming 
• More of a personal nature

Formal procedures may be initiated at any time during informal procedures, or without taking any informal procedures. The following are formal procedures:

• File a formal complaint following the guidelines in Policy 1700 or Title IX Grievance Procedure
• File a formal complaint using collective bargaining agreement grievance procedure
• File a formal complaint with the Montana Human Rights Bureau at Human Rights Portal or phone (406) 444-4356 or 1-800-542-0807
• File a formal complaint with the Office of Civil Rights at OCR Complaint Portal or phone: 1-800-368-1019, TDD: 1-800-537-769
